The University of Sydney and Campbelltown City Library Service have joined forces to provide local school students with support for their studies and transition to senior and tertiary education.
Three new programs will be held throughout 2018: an after school homework study centre, an information evening for parents and community and an HSC exam preparation day.
Mary Teague, Sydney University’s head of widening participation and outreach, welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the library and local students, families and community.
“As well as providing practical assistance and specific academic skills and knowledge, our programs are designed to demonstrate to the bright young people we work with that university can be a place for them,” she said.
“We need to engage with students early, as they’re beginning to make decisions about their futures, to help ensure they reach their full potential. We thank the library for its support of these initiatives, and look forward to working together throughout the year.”
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said council was pleased to support initiatives which provided students with assistance and advice at what could be a challenging and stressful time in their school careers.
“Students in Campbelltown already benefit from our library service’s very popular HSC lecture series, in addition to other HSC student resources including the free online tutoring program, Studiosity, online data bases which cover a range of subjects, and quiet study rooms at our libraries,” he said.
“Council’s collaboration with the University of Sydney on these three new programs will provide extra support for our hard working local students, to help them reach their full potential.”
