Best things in life are free – and that certainly looks like the case when Super W rugby comes to Campbelltown this Saturday afternoon.
That’s right, the women’s Waratahs and Brumbies sides will be running on to Campbelltown Showground for an official Super W trial match – and for fans it will be free entry.
On top of that, for local rugby fans that turn up there will be a bonus or two, with each team boasting one player who started their club careers right here with the Campbelltown Harlequins.
Atasi Lafai, pictured above, will be playing for the NSW Waratahs and Sally Fuesaina, below right, who grew up in Claymore, will be running out for the ACT Brumbies.
Both were an integral part in reigniting the women’s program in Campbelltown back in 2015 under Paul Verrell – and on Saturday will be running out on their own turf wearing big time rugby jerseys.
As well as Super W rugby for the Waratahs, Lafai is also a current member of the women’s national tea, the Wallaroos.
She has made nine appearances for them so far.
Born in Samoa in 1994, Lafai grew up in Minto, attended Sarah Redfern High and made her first grade rugby debut with the mighty Harlequins.
Saturday’s clash between the Waratahs and Brumbies women’s team is another feather in the cap of the club, which hosted the Waratahs men’s side in a clash against a Pasifica team last November.
Campbelltown Showground was packed for that rugby event, as no doubt Saturday’s women’s clash will be.
As well as Sally Fuesaina, also in the ACT Brumbies are Kayla Sauvao and Benita Ese, who will be calling Campbelltown Showground home in the 2024 club season.
The main game, Waratahs Super W women versus Brumbies Super W, will kick off at 4.45pm, this Saturday, February 24.
The curtain raisers include a women’s trial match at 3pm and an Under 16s girls 7s game. Gates will open from noon.
And while entry is free, fans are advised that the canteen and bar will be open and selling hot and cold food as well as refreshing beverages.
See you there, footy fans.
