Campbelltown MP Greg Warren did more than just attend the official opening of the Sunnyfield Hub last week. The MP gave them a grant of $11,280 under the Community Building Partnership program.
Sunnyfield will use this grant to expand their outdoor facilities, to allow room for their younger clients to play outdoors safely. Sunnyfield have been operating as a not-for-profit disability service provider for 64 years, including 12 years in the Macarthur region.
They currently service more than 80 clients in our area, most of whom are under the age of 18 and have intellectual disabilities with unique care needs.
♦ A flag raising ceremony will be held next Monday, April 18 to acknowledge the 200th anniversary of the massacre of Dharawal people in Appin in 1816. It will be held outside the council chambers in Queen Street from 10am and also taking part will be the Winga Myamly Reconciliation Group.
Note that this massacre took place some four years before the colony’s Governor, Lachlan Macquarie, founded Campbelltown in 1820. Yes, there are plans afoot to acknowledge that milestone as well in four years’ time.
♦ Dropping in to see veteran Labor councillor Meg Oates recently, I couldn’t help noticing the backyard of her lovely family home is strewn with champagne corks. “I collect them’’, Meg explained in the matter of fact style she is known for around Campbelltown. She told me the corks used to be neatly arranged in the backyard, but you know what grandchildren are like.

♦ One local businesswoman has been telling the story of how when she was introduced to the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull at a luncheon last week he was really taken with the top she was wearing. “That is a really wonderful top,’’ the PM apparently said more than once about the bright pink blouse worn under a business jacket.
No, sorry, we won’t be identifying the woman, but here’s a clue or two, she’s a blonde and the mother of two children.
