Are you stuck in another Macarthur traffic jam?

I don’t remember a time when there were no roadworks taking place somewhere along Narellan Road.

No, that’s not me saying it.

A Camden local said that to me during a meeting when talk turned to how in less than 10 years we’ve gone from Macarthur being a quiet backwater to a thriving region.

And how, naturally, there is a downside to everything.

In this case the most visible signs of our booming region are the traffic jams that we all encounter no matter what part of Macarthur we are in.

It highlights another failure by politicians in this country: planning properly.

We’re always building roads that will become inadequate far too quickly, and Narellan Road is a prime example of this.

It should have been widened to four lanes either way more than 10 years ago, but there you go.

So while we are stuck in another Narellan Road traffic jam, the State Government is stupidly bragging about a massive budget surplus.

And locally there is heaps of talk about developing a strategy to deal with all these issues.

But it’s been just talk for a long time and there are no signs the action part is coming any time soon.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]There’s no doubt that we need our own Trump in this country to rattle the cages of the major political parties, to – dare I say it – make this country great again.[/social_quote]

In the meantime let’s take a look the Top 5 – or should that be Bottom 5 – bottlenecks around our wonderful Macarthur.

Number 1. No prizes for guessing, Narellan Road, all the way from Campbelltown to Narellan Town Centre.

Number 2. Queen Street, Campbelltown, especially the northern end in the afternoon peak hour.

Number 3. Kellicar Road, near the Narellan Road intersection.

Number 4. Moore Oxley Road, from Tim’s Garden to Narellan Road.

Number 5. Gilchrist Avenue, making it two roads that connect to Macarthur Square. Again no surprises there.
