Step back into the 1800s at the historic Gledswood Homestead for a day of old fashioned, family fun this Sunday, August 13.
The Family Farm Day will begin from 11am at the colonial Gledswood Homestead, one of the major historic attractions of the Macarthur region.
Families will meet the property’s stockman, learn about life on the farm, sit around the campfire enjoying some damper and billy tea and try their hand at boomerang throwing.
Visitors will take in the history of Australian farming – an industry on which Australia was built upon, with a live demonstration of kelpies rounding up a flock of sheep for shearing.
Watch as the stockman shears the sheep and learn about how wool is classed in Australia.
The day’s activities will end around 2pm but guests are welcome to drop into the cellar door for some lunch and Australian wine or boutique craft beer.
The day will cost $5 per person and you can pre-purchase tickets from the Gledswood website or pay at the gate, which is accessed off Camden Valley Way, just past Raby Road if coming from Campbelltown.
Established in the 1830s, Gledswood Homestead was built by James Chisholm, one of the founders of the bank of NSW.
Nestled amongst hills and dales, a stone’s throw from Campbelltown Scenic Hills, the 184-year-old homestead boasts heritage gardens and farm buildings, and hosts many events, including weddings, functions and conferences.
