The highly anticipated St Helens Park skate park is a step closer to reality with the design phase now finalised.
A tender for the construction of the brand new facility was published last Tuesday, April 14.
The tender will close on Tuesday, May 19, with construction to commence later in the year.
This latest development follows extensive community consultation, which enabled skate park users and other interested community members to share their ideas.
The resulting design concept, developed by specialist providers En:Locus, has now been finalised and reflects the community’s aspirations of blending this new recreational facility with the surrounding natural setting.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said the new skate park design would offer a different experience to existing skate parks at Campbelltown and Macquarie Fields.
“The St Helens Park Skate Park will offer innovative and fresh design elements that complement the area’s open space and make the best use of the natural slope,” Cr Lake said.
“The multi-use facility will cater for skaters, scooters and BMX riders of all skill levels, with an internal grassed area and connecting pathways to provide a range of informal recreational spaces for all users.
“The design has largely been influenced by the surrounding natural landscape, with the facility still highly visible from Appin Road to maximise safety.
“A new carpark, seating and amenities will also enhance the recreational space, making it a fantastic addition for the growing suburbs in the southern end of our city,” Cr Lake said.
