St Gregory’s College says it has commenced disciplinary action against the two students accused of being involved in the alleged gang rape of a 17 year old girl earlier this month.
In a note sent to the St Gregory’s College community last Friday, college principal Matthew Brennan says:
“Whilst we are unable to share the details, we have already commenced disciplinary action in accordance with our established policy.
“That policy clearly provides for the suspension of students suspected of criminal behaviour.
“I want to reassure our community including families, students and staff, that no student charged with a serious criminal offence, and where such proceedings are ongoing, would be permitted on campus in line with our safety obligations,’’ Mr Brennan said in the note.
“We have a clear responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all our students and staff.
“Many thanks for the support shown to each other, the staff and students over the last week as the community navigated the current situation.
“Many thanks for your ongoing support of our community.
“I look forward to seeing many of you next week at the Centenary events,’’ says Mr Brennan.
While two of the accused boys attend St Greg’s, the third is a student at Elderslie High, which has not issued a public statement regarding the situation.
The three boys are all aged 17, all live in Camden and all play rugby league for the Camden Rams.
They appeared in Children’s Court last Thursday
Two of them were granted conditional bail, while one was denied bail and will stay in remand until the next court hearing later this year.
