Three sporting clubs in Campbelltown are celebrating after kicking goals off the playing field.
They have secured a combined $50,000 between them to put towards improvements to their home bases.
Campbelltown Cobras Soccer Club, East Campbelltown Eagles Rugby League Club and Campbelltown Uniting Church Soccer Club are the three local sport bodies doing high fives after Campbelltown MP Greg Warren announced they had been successful in applying for the grants.
Campbelltown Uniting Church Soccer will put its grant of $25,000 towards the upgrade of the playing surface and installation of safety fencing.
East Campbelltown Eagles Rugby League Club’s $19,000 grant will be spent on lighting upgrades and Indigenous/Polynesian jerseys.
Campbelltown Cobras Soccer Club’s $6,000 will pay for the installation of safety fencing.
Mr Warren said the funding for the Cobras, Eagles and Uniting Church was provided under the NSW Local Sport Grant Program.
The funding comes on top of the $300,000 Mr Warren announced in December last year under the Community Building Partnership Program.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Our local sporting clubs are part of the very fabric of our community, and it’s simply fantastic to be able to support these clubs through these grants,” Mr Warren said.[/social_quote]
“These upgrades will ensure our kids have the best opportunity to play sport safely, and to have access to the best facilities when they do.”
Campbelltown Councillor Darcy Lound, who also serves as President of the Macarthur Football Association, said that the grants to Campbelltown Cobras and Campbelltown Uniting Church Soccer Club were a big win for football in the Macarthur region.
“Soccer is the number one sport in Macarthur in terms of junior participation, so it’s fantastic to see two soccer clubs in Campbelltown getting some money for much-needed upgrades from their state member,” Cr Lound said.
