Campbelltown will get its sport centre of excellent after all.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet announced that his government’s WestInvest fund will deliver $16.7 million to build a sports and health centre of excellence at the northern end of Campbelltown Sports Stadium.

The $33 million project will deliver new sports science, health and wellbeing and community development and outreach programs as well as supporting development pathways for elite athletes in the region.

The government also released these images of what the centre of excellence could look like, although final designs have not been completed at this stage.

Campbelltown mayor George Greiss was quite ecstatic when he spoke to the South West Voice in Macarthur a few minutes ago.

While admitting the project wasn’t “shovel ready’’ Cr Greiss said he was hopeful that work would start soon.

“We are quite advanced in our design works, and now we will work with our partners to finalise them as soon as we can,’’ he said.

The Campbelltown Sport and Health Centre of Excellence is a partnership between the NSW Government,  the Australian Government, Campbelltown City Council, Western Sydney University and the South West Sydney Academy of Sport.

“I’d like to thank the NSW Government and our other important project partners for helping to bring this project into the heart of Campbelltown, enhancing our signature sport precinct at Campbelltown Stadium,” Cr Greiss said.

“Working with Western Sydney University as a key partner in this project, the Centre of Excellence will be a critical hub for education and sports science in our region, where our local people can study and work in a world class facility,” he said.

“With the support of our local teams Wests Tigers and Macarthur FC, the Centre of Excellence will also help to nurture the next generation of elite athletes across the Macarthur region.”

Premier Perrottet also announced that Eschol Park Soccer Club will benefit from a $2.8 million commitment to upgrade the clubhouse, storage and spectator areas at Eschol Park Sporting Complex.
