Outside, the famous synthetic playing field of Lynwood Park is getting a drenching on a wet and windy Monday night.
A couple of young soccer players are kicking a ball around in the under cover spectator area, staying out of the rain.
Inside the amenities building, it’s raining dollars.
Sponsorship dollars.
Alan Buxton, the chair of the Wests Group Macarthur board of directors, is announcing that local football is getting a bucketload of support for the coming season.
The deal will see Wests provide $100,000 in funding, plus additional in-kind and venue support, toward Macarthur Football Association and its competitions and pathways.
It’s a deal that means Wests will be the single largest supporter of football in the region.
In addition to a significant investment towards subsidized player insurance fees to alleviate fee pressure on families, Wests will add Macarthur Rams women’s FC to its ongoing support of the men’s club.
And last but not least, the deal makes Wests the new major partner of the incredibly successful M-League competition.
“Wests has been a long supporter of football in Macarthur with over 10 years of partnership with MFA and we are thrilled to be able to support further pathways, stronger competitions, and better opportunities for players and their families from under 9s all the way through to the local Premier League competition,’’ says Alan Buxton when he steps up to the microphone to say a few words at Lynwood Park.
Chairperson of the Macarthur Football Association Darcy Lound follows him, saying: “Despite an interrupted period due to the global health pandemic, the M-League competition has continued to thrive, and in 2023 it will only get better as we welcome Wests Group Macarthur as the new sponsor.
“This partnership with Wests Group Macarthur ensures the MFA can continue to provide significant value to the M-League community,’’ he says.
Once the speeches are done it’s time for photos.
Outside, it’s still raining cats and dogs, and the two young boys, pictured below, are kicking that soccer ball around, unaware what a big deal has just been announced inside.
If they were, they would be jumping up and down like they were in a car ad.
