Young spinner’s debut gives Ghosts hope for the future

Camden Campbelltown men’s first grade cricket side have finished the season the way they started it – not very well, going down to Mosman at Allan Border Oval on the weekend.

The defeat meant that the Ghosts finished last on the 20 team ladder for the 2021-22 season.

On Saturday, having chosen to bat first after winning the toss, the Ghosts made a meal of their innings, especially the top order.

There were three ducks, a nine and – the top score – a 15 from the top five batters.

Fortunately, the tail wagged and helped the Ghosts reach a reasonable total of 162 off 48.2 overs.

All-rounder William Salzman led the way with a whirlwind 66 off just 88 balls before he was run out.

The home side reached the victory target of 163 from just 25 overs with ease, losing just two wickets in the process.

Ghosts debutant Jacob Murphy bowled 4.3 overs that cost him 27 runs, but was nonetheless one of the positives for the side ahead of next season.

Jacob, pictured above, is a local junior who, according to the Ghosts, has shown great promise this season.

A talented spinner and explosive batter, Jacob could be just what the Ghosts need to keep their spirits up after an ordinary season, one and off the field.

  • Neighbours Fairfield Liverpool finished the season with an away win over Blacktown on Saturday.

Chasing 177 for victory, the Lions needed just 34 overs to reach the target. They lost five wickets in getting there.

The win and six points meant Lions finished 13th on the ladder.
