A Spring Farm P-plate driver had his licence confiscated and suspended on the spot for six months after he was detected travelling at more than 45km/h over the speed limit in Catherine Field last night.
Police said he was also watching YouTube on his mobile phone.
About 10.40pm, Highway Patrol officers detected a Mitsubishi Lancer heading south on Camden Valley Way at a speed of 142km/h in an 80km/h zone.
The vehicle was stopped and the 18-year-old man from Spring Farm was spoken to by police and produced a P1 licence.
While speaking with the driver, officers noticed his mobile phone in the centre console playing YouTube videos.
As well as having his licence confiscated and suspended on the spot for six months, the 18 year old driver received an infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h ($2435 and six demerit points) and using a mobile phone when not permitted ($337 and five demerit points).
The registration plates on his vehicle were removed and have been handed back to the RMS for three months.
