One of the highlights at this year’s Social Summer touch competition at Campbelltown Showground was seeing accomplished players from the local area make time to come down for a run with local players.

Some of these players included NRWL Knights premiership winner Rima Butler, Wallaroo Atasi Lafai, 2023 NRL West Tigers debutant Kit Laulilii, Moana Pacifica’s Irie Papuni, former FIji Bati player Netane Masima and former Parramatta Eel Ken Sio.

Another highlight was seeing players travel from as far as Burwood and Blacktown to have a run at this touch competition in Campbelltown.

The competition kicked off on September 20 and was held every week at the home of the Campbelltown Harlequins rugby club right up until last week.

The first night saw about 50 players come through and that number remained consistent throughout.

There was a group of core players with many new and returning faces ducking in and out over the Summer Series.

Members of the Campbelltown Harlequins women’s team provided the referees each week.

There was well over 100 people who turned up for the final night of the competition last week, just in time to beat the arrival of the really hot summer days and nights.

A local organisation, Breaking Chains, provided a a free barbecue for everyone present at the finale.

Breaking Chains was founded by a local Claymore boy, Danny Nicholson.

“It was great to have people and organisations from our area come down and rub shoulders together, have a run around and enjoy the good vibe down at the Showground,’’ a club spokesperson said.
