The Town Hall Theatre in Queen Street is one of Campbelltown’s great assets.
Now the heritage building will receive a massive lighting and electrical upgrade to bring it up to the 21st century.
This will be music to the ears of the Campbelltown Theatre Group, the heritage listed Town Hall building’s major tenant.
The work will be financed by a $34,166 grant from the NSW Government’s 2016 Community Building Partnership program, which has been matched dollar for dollar by Campbelltown Council.
It is one of 15 community projects which have received funding under the program.
The Town Hall project is the biggest of the 15 to receive funding, although the biggest grant of $43,834 was awarded to Campbelltown Ghosts Baseball.
Combined with a Campbelltown Council contribution of $31,666, it will be used to deliver a major upgrade of the irrigation facilities at Woodland Road Baseball Complex.
All up $300,000 has been allocated towards the 15 Campbelltown projects, with the council chipping in with $85,000 of ratepayers’ funds.
Council’s contribution is tied to four of the 15 projects, including the connection of a water main at Lynwood Park RFS, as well as upgrades to the playground at Campbelltown Community Preschool.
The State Member for Campbelltown, Greg Warren, and Mayor George Brticevic have today announced details of the 15 infrastructure projects that have received funding.
“Campbelltown is home to so many great organisations of all sorts, and it’s great to be able to support so many organisations through the CBP program again this year,’’ Mr Warren said.
“Whether it’s sporting clubs, churches, cultural groups or our local schools, there’s something in this year’s CBP program for everyone.
“I encourage any organisation which didn’t apply, or that did and was unsuccessful, to apply again next year so we can continue this great program in our community.”
Other projects being funded include vehicle purchases for Campbelltown Rotary and the Airds-Bradbury Men’s Shed, as well as playground upgrades at Campbelltown Public School and Ambarvale Public School and new electronic signs for John Warby Public School and the Macarthur Rams at Lynwood Park.
Work on the projects being funded will begin in March 2017 and is expected to be completed by early 2018 for most of them.
“Campbelltown City Council is committed to the ongoing support and encouragement of grassroots initiatives that make a real difference to the fabric of our community,’’ said Mayor George Brticevic.
“The success of local organisations in receiving CBP program funding support is reflective of the importance of their contribution to our city, and I’m proud that council was also able to allocate funds towards a range of local sporting club infrastructure improvements and community facility upgrades as part of this round of funding.
“I look forward to seeing the many projects come to fruition over the coming year, and have no doubt that the improvements will be embraced by the wider Campbelltown community,” he said.
