Heathcote Road: the government wants to know what motorists think needs to be done.

Roads and Maritime Services is inviting community feedback on a proposal to improve the intersection of Heathcote Road and Macarthur Drive at Hammondville.

State Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons says the $350,000 project would improve safety and travel times for motorists travelling through the intersection while long term solutions to reduce congestion on Heathcote Road were investigated.

“Roads and Maritime is proposing to change the traffic light configuration at the roundabout so only southbound vehicles turning right into Macarthur Drive would wait for a green arrow,” Ms Gibbons said.

“A concrete median would be built to separate southbound motorists travelling straight through the intersection, from those turning right.

“The upgrade would allow southbound motorists to pass through the intersection with less delay, especially during peak travel times.

Feedback on the intersection upgrade can be provided to project partner DownerMouchel by Friday, November 13 via email enquiries_nsw@downermouchel.com or by writing to DownerMouchel, Heathcote Road and Macarthur Drive Hammondville, PO Box 646 North Ryde 2113.

Ms Gibbons said Roads and Maritime was continuing to plan for the proposed upgrade of Heathcote Road to four lanes between Infantry Parade at Holsworthy and The Avenue at Voyager Point.

“The NSW Government has committed $4 million to planning this important two kilometre upgrade,” Ms Gibbons said.

“A submissions report is being prepared following community comment in June.

“It is expected the report will be available later this year. “
