The Shepherd Centre is coming to Macarthur.
Their world leading services for children with hearing loss will be initially offered from temporary premises until the completion of a brand new, purpose built centre in the Campbelltown area.
Services will be offered every Monday from 8am to 4pm in the Ron Moore Community Centre in Minto and will include listening and spoken language therapy, audiological services, child and family counselling as well as group educational and support programs.
This is set to expand to additional days in 2019.
The interim service will be launched on Wednesday, November 14.
Dr Jim Hungerford, CEO of The Shepherd Centre will join Mayor of Campbelltown, George Brticevic, at the official opening.
The Shepherd Centre offers programs and services to help children with hearing loss learn to listen and speak and supports more than 500 children of all ages and their families each year.
One in 1,000 babies is diagnosed with hearing loss each year making it the most common disability diagnosed at birth in Australia.
This number increases by the time a child reaches school with 1 in 300 having hearing loss.
“For every child we support, we know that there is currently another child with hearing loss out there that is not accessing critical specialised services,’’ says Mr Hungerford.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“The sooner a child with hearing loss is supported, the better the outcomes.’’[/social_quote]
The Shepherd Centre provides audiology, speech therapy, child and family counselling and specialised group programs all under the one roof.
This means that families can visit one centre and have a team of highly trained specialists working together on tailored programs suited to their child’s specific needs.
