The Campbelltown City Kangaroos recently hosted one of their former legends, current Australian rugby league coach Tim Sheens.
The former Wests Tigers mentor attended Kangaroos training on Tuesday, February 24.
Sheens was the premiership winning captain of the City club’s last Group 6 first grade premiership win in 1983, and said he was honoured to return as a guest coach for the evening.
Tim put the players through their paces, coaching the intricacies of their ruck plays and offering the wisdom of 34 seasons of coaching experience.
City chairman Brian Brown made a special presentation to Sheensy – a collage of images from his time at the club.
Sheens, touched by the gesture remarked, “the 1983 season was the only premiership I ever won as a player, and was one of my most enjoyable.”
Sheens accepted the role of club patron, and commitments pending, has promised to visit a few more training sessions or games during the season.
Club sponsor Rashays Campbelltown hosted a dinner in Sheens’ honour following training, with the great coach regaling sponsors with many footy stories.
