“Do more together” is the theme of the 60th annual seniors festival in 2018.

Community groups, businesses and other organisations are invited to “do more together’’ during the NSW Seniors Festival by registering their activity with Campbelltown City Council for inclusion in a Calendar of Events.

The Seniors Festival is celebrating 60 years in 2018, and will run from Wednesday, April 4 to Sunday, April 15.

It is the largest celebration for people aged over 60 in the southern hemisphere, and celebrates the contribution of seniors to our community, while encouraging them to remain active and stay socially connected.

It is also aimed at people aged 50 and older who have a lifelong disability, or who are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.

This year’s theme, “let’s do more together’’, promotes inclusive communities by providing a range of opportunities for seniors to make new friends, get together with old friends, and try new things.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said Campbelltown’s older residents enjoyed a diverse range of activities held as part of the annual festival, and invited locals to support seniors in doing more together by hosting, and advertising their activities in the Calendar of Events.

“There were a wealth of events, activities and information sessions held locally as part of last year’s festival, reflecting our community’s enthusiasm for thanking local seniors, and celebrating their contribution to our city,” he said.

“Activities included seniors concerts, an intergenerational debate, free advice sessions and tours.

“Council encourages groups, businesses and other organisations to get involved to help ensure our local celebration is bigger and better than ever, and worthy of the Seniors Festival’s important 60-year milestone.”

Local seniors will be able to source a copy of the Calendar of Events online, or from Council’s Civic Centre, branch libraries or leisure centres, closer to the festival.

If you are hosting a Seniors Festival activity in 2018, register your interest in featuring your activity in the calendar by Friday, February 2.
