It officially starts today, Friday, April 1 – yes, April Fool’s Day – but this year’s Seniors Festival offers a packed program of serious fun.
From art, music and entertainment, to technology, recreation and information, there’s a wealth of experiences to stimulate the mind, energise the body and enrich life for seniors for the next 10 days.
The NSW Seniors Festival is the largest celebration for people aged over 60 in the southern hemisphere, and that’s no April Fool’s joke either.
It’s also aimed at people aged 50 and older who have a lifelong disability, or are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
The annual initiative recognises seniors and the contributions they make to the NSW community.
This year’s theme of Grow Young celebrates seniors’ energy, experience and sense of adventure.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Hawker, said council was proud to support the Seniors Festival, and facilitate events that assist seniors in maintaining social networks and being actively engaged in educational, recreational and cultural pursuits.
“We want to encourage seniors to remain active, stay socially connected, and live fulfilling lives,” Cr Hawker said.
“This year’s theme serves as a reminder that no matter what your age, it’s never too late to grow, learn, laugh and be inspired.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Council values the contributions that seniors make to our community and the events we have planned during the annual NSW Seniors Festival are aimed at inspiring seniors to join in and enjoy the benefits that come from participation,” Cr Hawker said.[/social_quote]
