Billions of dollars are being injected into the Western Sydney region, much of it on major infrastructure projects, which is creating demand for qualified graduates.
Residential property developer Dahua Group is doing its bit: it is helping to produce the construction industry’s future leaders by offering scholarships at Western Sydney University.
There are currently six scholarships taken up by local students studying planning, construction management and engineering.
“Dahua Group is focused on giving back in the areas where we develop communities,’’ says Eric Li, the CEO of Dahua in NSW and Queensland.
“The company has a strong pipeline of projects along the eastern seaboard,’’ he said.
“Two major master planned projects – New Breeze and Menangle Park are located in south western Sydney, which was a key decision in choosing to partner with Western Sydney University.
“Education is one of the most significant investments a person can make in securing a prosperous future. “Supporting initiatives that focus on quality education such as scholarships is an ideal way to help both individuals and the community,” Mr Li said.
Professor Simeon Simoff, Dean of the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics at Western Sydney University, welcomes Dahua’s commitment to the next generation of building professionals.
“Western Sydney University prides itself on providing our students with opportunities to engage with and learn from industry leaders,’’ says Prof Simoff.
“The building industry is continually evolving and support through scholarships and access to mentors allows our students to graduate as skilled, well-connected individuals who understand the challenges and opportunities within the industry and their impact on the broader community.”
One current Dahua scholarship holder is Keshavan Kiritharan, who is undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Civil at Western Sydney University who will graduate next year. He is pictured here.
“Academically, the scholarship provided me with the motivation to continue working hard and improve each semester,’’he says.
“Personally, it has validated the hard work I have put in over the past year and will open up opportunities for me in terms of job prospects when I graduate as it is a key point of difference on my resume, allowing me to stand out.”
Applications for 2020 are now open for Dahua Group scholarships sponsored at Western Sydney University.
