John Pearson, the former Rural Fire Service Macarthur zone inspector, recently retired after 38 years of service.

But one of the things he did on retirement was continue his association with the local RFS as a volunteer.

This week the Mayor of Campbelltown, Councillor Paul Hawker, hosted a special morning tea to honour Mr Pearson and his contribution to the community of Campbelltown and the Macarthur region.

The mayor presented Mr Pearson with one of the biggest honours given by the council, a Community Service Award.

Cr Hawker acknowledged John Pearson’s exemplary record and decades of work, both locally and in surrounding areas.

Mayoral praise for all members of the RFS

But the mayor also praised the work of the RFS and all emergency services that support our community.

“Throughout the past 38 years, John has dedicated his life to supporting local communities during bushfire incidents across the state,’’ he said.

“He has also helped to build resilience in the face of the sometimes devastating impacts of these events.

“His dedication to protecting and serving continues even into retirement, with John electing to continue his association with the RFS in a volunteer capacity.

“Acknowledging John in this way is not only formal recognition of his personal contribution, but for the work of those in the Rural Fire Service and emergency services across our region, many of them volunteers.

“These volunteers play an important role in protecting our community and helping to make Campbelltown City such a great place to live, work, play and invest,” Cr Hawker said.
