Rotary club for young people on the way for Macarthur

Presenting the Macarthur police officer of the year awards is one of the high profile activities of the Rotary clubs in the region.

From fundraising to sponsoring community events, our Rotary clubs play a significant part in Macarthur.

However, their membership is almost wholly made up of people nearing their retirement or those who are already there.

That is just one of the reasons the eight Rotary clubs in Macarthur have banded together once again to form a Rotaract club – Rotary for younger people.

Barry Woolfe, the new generations director at Ingleburn Rotary for 2022-23, says the aim is to encourage young people aged 18 to 30 to become more involved within their community and to increase their social connections.

“Once established, the club would operate independently from Rotary, although the rotary clubs would be available to give support as required,’’ he says.

A Macarthur Rotaract would be open to young people from Wollondilly to Ingleburn.

Across the world, including Australia, Rotaract provides opportunities for young adults to boost their knowledge and skills through personal development and to address the physical and social needs of their communities.

Rotaract also empowers its young members to create positive change and helps them become the leaders of tomorrow.

Rotaract clubs across Australia are part of a worldwide organisation of 250,792 individuals in 10,904 clubs covering 184 countries.

There are three active Rotaract Clubs in Rotary District 9675, which covers most of the metropolitan area of Sydney.

Mr Woolfe said the combined Rotary Clubs of Macarthur have planned a special information night to assist with the formation of a Rotaract Club in our local region.

It will be held on Tuesday, September 20, from 7pm in the Campbelltown RSL club.
