Rome may be burning but life goes on

We’re all in agreement that 2020 is a hell of a year and 2019 wasn’t much better. Do you remember that water restrictions started coming in last year, which were followed by bushfires that had all of us worried sick.

Much of NSW was in drought and is only now emerging from it, only to be hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Rome is burning’’ would be a rather apt way to describe our lives these past 12 months, and who knows, maybe there’s worse to come.

But you know life goes when an online newspaper like ours is asked to help a family that was being ripped off by a home builder.

They actually got in touch just before the arrival of the virus from China, but it was obvious we were their last hope in getting their deposit back from the builder who built absolutely nothing for them.

So we played email ping pong for a while with this local family of good, hard working people who deserved better than the treatment from this company.

The great Australian dream of having your own home became a nightmare for one local family.

A brief summary of the story is that the family paid a deposit of $15,750 to the builder after choosing a house and land package.

They had to go with the builder that was part of the package.

Our greatest reward is the smile of happy customers, says on the website of this builder, but there was to be none of that for most of the families that chose those house and land packages.

Once we had all the information from the family that contacted us, we tried to get in touch with the builder, in order to give them the opportunity to explain their side of the story.

So finally we put our questions down in an email and pressed Send, and waited.

And waited and waited.

Then, finally, an email, but it was from the family, and it was indeed good news.

We got our deposit back and we’re quite certain your email had a lot to do with it, the family said.

Well, it’s a crazy world out there, but we’re glad we were able to help.
