Most of the outer South West Sydney region fortunately avoided any serious bushfire threats this summer.
Other than the Wollondilly Shire, where the Green Wattle Creek Fire devastated areas such as Balmoral, our neck of the woods was spared during what was one of the worst bush fire seasons for many years.
But this didn’t mean that the volunteer fire fighters in Macarthur Zone RFS had it easy – far from it.
Brigades at Bringelly, Camden West, Casula, Catherine Field, Cobbitty, Kemps Creek, Kentlyn, Luddenham, Lynwood Park, Menangle Park, Middleton, Minto Heights, Narellan, Varroville, Wedderburn and others were at the forefront of the mighty fight against this summer’s giant bushfires both on the South Coast and in Northern NSW.
Now the time has come to honour them and say thanks at a Family Fun Day on Sunday, April 5.
To be held at Wests Tennis Club at Leumeah, the day will be dedicated to saying thanks to Macarthur Zone firefighters, volunteers, members and their families for their dedication and commitment in keeping our community safe.
The event will be free for Macarthur Zone RFS members, while the general public are also invited to come along enjoy the festivities in exchange for a gold coin donation. All funds raised will be donated to Macarthur Zone RFS.
On offer will be activities for the whole family, such as a mega slide, jumping castles, dunk tank, bucking bull, face painting, animal petting zoo, and plenty of food.
There will also be West Tigers and Campbelltown Council activations and merchandise.
Entertainment will include a DJ and live performances by Mt Annan Sisters, Like Angels Trio, who recently penned their song “Rain” to support drought and bushfire relief.
