Federal Member for Fowler, Chris Hayes MP, is asking everyone to spare a thought this Remembrance Day for those who served and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the security of our nation.

“Despite the pace of our modern world, it is appropriate we take a minute’s silence at 11am on November 11 to honour the memory of those men and women who gave much so that we may enjoy life in Australia today,’’ Mr Hayes said.

“It is also important that we show our gratitude to all serving members of our military who today continue to defend our rights, liberties and freedom.

“It is not only the fallen that deserve our respect and honour, but it is also important to take proper care of their families, as well as the soldiers who carry physical and emotional scars.’’

The Remembrance Day tradition was started in honour of more than 60,000 Australians who died during the First World War and this year tribute will be paid to more than 100,000 Australians who have given their lives in various wars and conflicts.

Tomorrow, November 11, Remembrance Day commemorations will be held across the country.

And just like Anzac Day, they will be held everywhere, in every town and every city, from the Australian War Memorial in Canberra to local memorials, including in the south west at Liverpool and Campbelltown.

“Lest we forget,’’ says Mr Hayes.
