Federal Member for Macarthur, Dr Mike Freelander, says that from Ben Chifley launching the first Australian-made Holden car in 1948 to Bob Hawke establishing the famous green and gold Australian Made logo in 1986, supporting Australian manufacturing and jobs has always been a priority for Labor Governments.

He says the baton has now been passed on to the Albanese Government, which is investing $22.7 billion over the next decade to build a Future Made in Australia.

As part of Australian Made Week 2026, Dr Freelander visited the Sebel manufacturing facility in Minto last week, pictured above.

Founded in 1951, Sebel produces chairs and furniture for a range of clients, such as schools and council halls right through to stadiums, such as those found at the Campbelltown Stadium and the SCG.

And with a local workforce of nearly 50 employees, Sebel is a strong Australian brand that is helping bolster our economy and manufacturing capabilities, says our local federal MP.

Dr Freelander met with workers and saw firsthand how quality chairs and furniture is produced right here in Macarthur and then delivered to customers all around Australia.

The Member for Macarthur says he appreciates those that are making the right choice by purchasing from Australian manufacturers, such as Sebel, because in doing so, it means stronger local businesses, more secure supply chains, and more jobs in our communities.

“Sebel is an Australian success story and I am grateful to their team for employing local workers, producing locally-made products and bolstering both our local and national economy,’’ he said.

“It is so important to buy Aussie made goods wherever and whenever possible because in doing so, we are helping create and retain jobs for Australians, including many right here in Macarthur!’’
