The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan has welcomed a record number of visitors in the past 12 months.
It is set to welcome even more this Spring as it unveils its two month paper daisy display between now and October 21.
During the 2015-2016 financial year, the number of visitors to the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan rose 19 per cent to a record 395,422, with more people discovering Australia’s biggest botanic garden (416 hectares), which showcases Australian flora among rolling hills and lakes.
Big crowds are expected to visit the garden in the coming weeks for the annual display of wild Western Australian paper daisies.
The vibrantly coloured flowers of pink, yellow and white were unveiled on August 29 and will bloom until October 21.
The display covers a total area of more than 1,700 square metres (just over the size of an Olympic swimming pool).
While native to Western Australia, paper daisies are rarely seen outside the state, making this one of eastern Australia’s few mass paper daisy displays.
The flowerbeds are situated at the base of the Connections Garden and have drawn thousands of people each spring since the first display more than 20 years ago.
Paper daisy seeds will be available for purchase from the visitor centre for those inspired to add a splash of colour to their own garden.
The Botanic Garden also features 20km of walking tracks, lakes, gardens, parks and a spectacular Stonehenge-type sundial, outdoor sculptures and a mountain bike track.
Admission is free and the garden is open from 8am-5pm daily.
The best time to visit is in September when the daisy display is at its peak, and the garden’s 200 species of wattle are in bloom.
