Push for south bound ramps: Spring Farm Parkway to Hume Highway

If you live in Campbelltown, and you’d like to travel south along the Hume Highway, there are just two entry ramps between Glenfield and St Helens Park.

They are connected at Narellan Road near the university and a little further north at St Andrews, off Campbelltown Road.

It took a long campaign over many years to get the St Andrews entry ramp built and helped take thousands of vehicles off local roads since.

But all that could come undone unless a third south bound on and off ramp is built at the Hume Highway when the Spring Farm Parkway is built.

The Parkway is a critical piece of road infrastructure designed to cater to increased traffic levels in the south of Campbelltown as population growth booms in the next decade and beyond.

It means anyone who wants to travel south will have to head north first, on local roads such as Appin Road and Menangle Road, adding to congestion.

However, it looks like south bound ramps are not on the agenda as far as the state government is concerned.

Campbelltown MP Greg Warren, pictured above at Appin Road, is urging the Perrottet Government to amend its plans to include the construction of south bound entry and exit ramps at the Spring Farm Parkway and Hume Highway interchange.

He said present designs would not cater for the needs of the growing communities in Campbelltown, Camden and Wollondilly.

“The Macarthur region is in the midst of a population boom, and it is vital adequate infrastructure is in place to cater for both existing and future residents,” Mr Warren said.

“That includes ensuring that roads – and access to those roads – are up to standard so locals spend less time in traffic and more time with their loved ones.

“Despite what the NSW Liberals think, all roads do not lead to Sydney.

“South bound entry and exit ramps at the Spring Farm Parkway and Hume Highway interchange would allow motorists to head south without having to navigate congested local roads first.

“There will be more pressure on local roads in the north of Campbelltown due to new estates in Gilead and Menangle Park – that’s a fact.

“To help alleviate that pressure, south bound entry and exit ramps must be constructed at the Menangle Road and Hume Highway interchange,” Mr Warren said.
