Campbelltown, did you hear the thunder last Saturday night? Not once or twice but six times the roar went up from Macarthur FC fans lucky enough to be ringside at Campbelltown Stadium for an unforgettable show against reigning premiers Melbourne City.
Three goals in the first half from Mitchell Duke (6th minute), a beauty from Luke Brattan three minutes later and in the 34th minute Anthony Caceres had the cowbells ringing like there was no tomorrow.
Youngsters and rising stars Luke Vickery (62nd minute), Dean Bosnjak (69th min), as well as the club’s own cult hero Harrison Sawyer (94th min) also found the net for the raging Bulls.
The visitors scored two of their own, but really it was all Bulls for the entire match, leaving the coach, Mile Sterjovski, with a big smile on his face afterwards.
“I’m very happy. I feel like last week we put on a really good performance against the Mariners without getting the win, a dominant performance, and I feel like tonight we continued that form and scored six goals,’’ Sterjovski told the media.
“A deserved win, and it was good to do it in front of a home crowd
“The determination is there, the urgency is there.
“We have a tough match next against Adelaide away, they’re also in good form so I’m expecting that it will be a sell-out,’’ he said.
Sterjovski also revealed that his second game in charge of the Bulls was against Melbourne City.
“And we lost 6-2, so there you go.’’
Bulls have jumped back in third spot on the A-League table, as well as now having a positive goal differential.
Harry Sawyer, meanwhile, is the leading goalscorer with six, a low bar this season so far for the competition sharpshooters.
The Bulls head west to Adelaide this coming Friday, January 30, and will be back home at Campbelltown Stadium a week later, on Friday, February 6 to host WA side Perth Glory.
