Bushcare: new group is about to be set up to focus on a reserve in Blair Athol.

Enthusiastic participants are invited to join a new community project, Bringing Back the Buzz, aiming to create habitat and resources for native pollinators in endangered Cumberland Plain Woodland areas.

The new Blair Athol Bushcare Group will undertake the project and play an active role in looking after the unique bushland in John Kidd Reserve, Blair Athol.

The bushcare group will be launched on Saturday, March 18, with a tree planting day at the reserve on The Kraal Drive, Blair Athol, from 9am to 11am, followed by a free barbecue.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said he was pleased the new project would “put the buzz back’’ into the rare Cumberland Plain Woodland in John Kidd Reserve.

“Campbelltown residents are lucky enough to live in an area of significant natural beauty, and council is committed to preserving and rehabilitating these areas for current and future residents, with the help of our Bushcare group volunteers,” he said.

“Council’s Bushcare program targets a number of sites throughout the city, including Kentlyn, Noorumba Reserve, Scattergood Reserve, Campbelltown Golf Course, Milton Park/Redfern Creek, Quirk Reserve and Smiths Creek Reserve.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Volunteers play a vital role in protecting and improving these areas, participating in activities such as tree planting, wildlife spotting, erosion control, weed management and cleaning up litter in bushland.[/social_quote]

“No experience or equipment is necessary to be volunteer, just a love of the outdoors and an interest in connecting with nature.”

Bushcare volunteers should wear a long sleeved shirt, pants, closed-in shoes and a hat.

Bringing Back the Buzz to the Cumberland Plain Woodland is managed by the National Parks Association of NSW, in partnership with Campbelltown City Council, and has been assisted by the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust.
