Pushbike ride turns into tragedy for 10 year old girl

A 10 year old girl riding a pushbike in Bardia has been rushed to hospital after being hit by a vehicle last night.

The incident took place around 8pm along Campbelltown Road.

The child, who was struck by a utility vehicle, suffered a fractured leg and possible abdominal injuries.

She was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel before being taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command established a crime scene and have spoken with the 45-year-old male driver of the ute.

The Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) were also called to the scene and will be conducting inquiries.

They are appealing for anyone with information or dashcam vision to contact them via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

A local police officer has been charged over an alleged assault and an offence under the Liquor Act.

Officers attached to Camden Police Area Command commenced an investigation into alleged assault offences earlier this month.

Following inquiries, a 40-year-old senior constable attached to Campbelltown Police Area Command was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He also faces a charge of being an excluded person re-entering or attempting to re-enter premises.

The male officer is next due to appear at Picton Local Court on April 6.

His employment status remains under review.
