Productivity Bootcamp is coming to Campbelltown

In 2015, Paul Breen, an experienced construction manager and former owner of a successful civil construction company, launched the first Productivity Bootcamp program.

He did so after experiencing first hand the effect of the skills shortage in the industry.

Breen, pictured, began by experimenting with different crews and employing young people with no experience.

He found that by tapping in to these young people in the right way, giving them challenges and benchmarks, proper training and a regular pat on the back, he was able to create a high performing team and culture.

Confused about the negative media around young people and unemployment, Paul decided to sell his company and pursue his vision of building a training company that uses these learnings to build work ethic in young people and provide them with the skills needed to be productive workers.

The result was Productivity Bootcamp, an eight week intensive program that arms young people with the skills and work ethic required to be productive employees.

Breen, who has been running Productivity Bootcamp around the Penrith area, has been in discussions to expand to Campbelltown.

Councillor Warren Morrison in particular has been working hard to have the program operate out of Campbelltown on a permanent basis.

In early 2017, an opportunity arose to expand Productivity Bootcamp to the Macarthur region and 10 young men graduated from the program and on to employment or further education (pictured below).

Now Productivity Bootcamp is back in Campbelltown for a second stint, starting from next month.

Thanks to funding from NSW Government, participation in the program is free.

“We have been operating in Western Sydney since 2015 and have seen over 85 percent of our graduates move into paid employment,’’ says Paul Breen.

Participants get practical, hands-on construction training by experienced tradespeople in a wide range of trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, concreting, bricklaying and others.
