Early results of a new study aimed at tracking the movements of foxes throughout South West Sydney will be showcased at a public meeting in Cawdor this Wednesday night.

The meeting marks the start of the autumn phase of the Menangle Fox Control campaign coordinated by Greater Sydney Local Land Services in partnership with Barragal Landcare and local councils.

Program coordinator Dr Alison Towerton said the study had so far uncovered some interesting information.

“The study focuses on the movements of four foxes who were trapped and re-released in the Menangle area after being fitted with GPS tracking collars,” she said.

“The information collected will help us better understand the areas they use and how to best manage the resources they are selecting to rest or den.”

Dr Towerton encouraged interested residents to come along to the meeting to find out more.

“Foxes are a major issue for landholders particularly in the South West region,’’ she said.

“The only way we can best reduce their impact is by working in partnership with landholders and the broader community,” Dr Towerton said.

The next meeting will be held at Cawdor Public School this Wednesday, March 21 from 7pm.
