The community is being encouraged to have their say on a strategy which will shape the future of sport and recreation in Campbelltown.
Campbelltown City Council engaged sport and leisure planning consultants Otium Planning Group to assist in creating the strategy, which is on public exhibition for comment until Friday, February 17.
The draft Sport and Recreation Strategy covers sport, recreation, leisure and aquatics, and includes an audit of current facilities, sets out what the needs of the community will be in five, 10 and 20 years, and what facilities will be required to meet those needs.
It provides draft criteria to guide the allocation of resources and funding, and identifies potential sites and a hierarchy of sport and recreation facilities to enable a broad range of opportunities locally.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said the strategy aimed to ensure the community’s sport and recreation needs were met, as the city faced unprecedented growth in the coming decades.
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“Campbelltown is forecast to become home to 270,000 people by 2036, which makes it vital that we act now to develop a comprehensive and clear direction for sport and recreation in our city,” he said.[/social_quote]
“Council has consulted with stakeholders such as sporting groups and associations in the development of this draft strategy, and is now calling for feedback on this draft before finalising the plan.
“Residents will have the opportunity to have their say in a variety of ways, including via an online survey and feedback form, and a community workshop in February.
“I encourage you to share your thoughts, and to play a part in setting priorities for sport and recreation facilities which will benefit our community for years to come.”
Feedback will be sought on the draft Sport and Recreation Strategy at a community workshop at Campbelltown Civic Centre from 7pm on Wednesday, February 1.
To register for this workshop contact council on 4645 4000.
