Expressions of interest for a pop-up style café in Bigge Park are now open.

Mayor Ned Mannoun said the café was one of the key pieces in the plans to revitalise Bigge Park as part of the Building Our New City program.

At September’s Council meeting Bigge Park, Macquarie Mall and the transformation of key city gateways (entry points) were prioritised as part of the city program.

“Bigge Park is an important green space in our city centre,” Mayor Mannoun said.

“Our very own ‘Central Park’, Bigge Park connects people working and using the Liverpool Hospital precinct to the shops, transport and services within the city centre. Liverpool Hospital, along with the Ingham Institute, are two of our city’s biggest employers, employing about 5000 people.

“We are upgrading Bigge Park to provide spaces for time out, recreation and community celebrations. A key part of that is a pop-up café to encourage visitors, workers and residents to linger and enjoy the park.”

Council would improve pathways in, around and across the park, as well as build new street furniture, shade structures and lighting as part of the changes.

“If you want to operate a café in a central and vibrant part of the city, with thousands of workers nearby, I encourage you to express an interest now,” Mayor Mannoun said.

  1. It would be fantastic to have those pop up stores with GOOD COFFEE around the places people would love to relax. Bigge Park is a great start, wish we could have some more connectivity to the river though. Still have memories of jumping off the railway bridge into the river as a kid.
