Eight people were arrested yesterday and 19 charges laid in a blitz on rail networks in the South West Sydney region.

It was part of Operation Safe Tracks, which is aimed at reducing crime and keeping people safe on the rail network.

Starting from 2pm, yesterday’s operation ran for 10 hours, with 25 officers from Macquarie Fields, Campbelltown and Liverpool Local Area Commands taking part.

Also part of Operation Safe Tracks were officers from the Police Transport Command (PTC) who were out in force yesterday, patrolling the rail network across South West Sydney alongside local police officers.

The operation targeted commuter behaviour, with a focus on property offences, drug-related crime, anti-social behaviour, graffiti, stealing, and transport offences.

At the completion of the operation, 19 charges were laid against eight people for offences relating to drug possession, stealing, and goods in custody.

Police also issued 19 infringements for rail offences.

Police will continue to target offences on the rail network with further operations expected to be conducted throughout the coming months.
