The success of the Macarthur retired and former police association’s golf day even surprised Stephen Reeves, who was involved in organising the fundraising event last Thursday.
Mr Reeves, the welfare officer and event manager of the association, was quite chuffed how well supported the day was at the Camden Lakeside golf course.
“I have organised numerous charity events to assist individuals and sporting groups over the past 30 years or so, but I must say today’s golf day was something special,’’ he said.
“I say this because of the impact it will have on people’s lives who may be involved in motor vehicle accidents or injured in other ways.
“Our initial goal was to raise money to buy three defibrillators to be placed in local police vehicles, but the event soon grew a life of its own, and in the end we raised enough money to purchase two defibrillators each for the Campbelltown, Camden and Liverpool police commands.
“I thank the local businesses and individuals who came forward to support the day which resulted in us raising $14,800,’’ Mr Reeves said.
Almost 50 police officers, mostly retired, but some active in the force across the Macarthur region, had a hit around Lakeside.
Inspector Dale Abbott, from the Campbelltown Police Area Command, joined the group for lunch and the presentations of prizes.
The competition was won by a team made up of Darren Wilson, Ben Wilson, Matt Wilson and Matt Findlay, who are pictured below.
“Organising this event is our way of contributing to the community and supporting police,’’ Mr Reeves told the South West Voice.
“You may not be aware that defibrillators are not standard equipment in police vehicles.
“Even if one life is saved using this equipment it will make the day very worthwhile,’’ he said.
