Gawler Avenue in Minto is around 1,000 metres long, yet some people drive their vehicles through it at speeds of up to 140km an hour.

Campbelltown Council installed a traffic counter/radar in Gawler Avenue after residents complained that speeding was an issue of concern.

Residents told council that a large number of motorists drove their vehicles way over the speed limit for a residential area.

The residents asked council to help them stamp out speeding in their street.

Council’s monitoring detected motorists driving their vehicles at between 125 and 140 km an hour.

The worst time for speeding was between 8pm and midnight.

Council’s traffic committee, which considered the residents’ complaints, has recommended that council write to the NSW Police Force and ask them to take action to stamp out the speeding in Gawler Avenue.

It will also supply the police with the figures it obtained from its monitoring of Gawler Avenue.

The matter was due to go before the full council meeting tonight, August 19, where the green light was expected to be given to the traffic committee’s recommendation.
