Whether your child is creative or sporty, loves movies or excursions, Campbelltown City Council’s winter school holiday program has it covered.
Lots of fun, free, or low cost activities to keep kids of diverse ages and interests entertained and active this July are part of council’s offering.
Campbelltown City’s four library branches are always the place to be during the school holidays, with a great range of activities on offer, from puppet shows, circus skills workshops and creating your own jigsaw puzzles, to chilling out watching movies, including Trolls and Moana, and programming with ‘Scratch’ for eight to 14-year-olds.
Visual arts, sculpture, textiles, tours and interactive music will be among the fun activities on offer at Campbelltown Arts Centre, which aim to nurture creativity and enjoyment of the arts.
Kids will enjoy Einsteinz Music and Designer Threads classes, and Art Explorers workshops, in addition to artistic activities at Macarthur Square, including a plants, animals and creative kids workshop, and a special NAIDOC Week event: How the birds got their colours.
Council has partnered with the PlantBank at the Australian Botanic Garden, Mount Annan to give kids the opportunity to tour the garden, learn about the special plants that call Australia and our region home, and create their own artwork for the annual Threatened Species Art and Creative Writing Competition, from 10am to midday on Tuesday, July 4.
The ever-popular free sustainability workshops are being held again these school holidays.
Hosted by council in partnership with the Macarthur Centre for Sustainable Living, the workshops give kids the opportunity to find out how to prepare and plant their own garden.
Kids can make a splash at Macquarie Fields Leisure Centre and Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre in Bradbury, with both pools offering an intensive learn to swim program.
For those keen to take to the track, the Campbelltown Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre is open from 10am to 3pm on Sundays, as well as weekdays during the school holidays.
Entry is free – just bring your own bike or scooter and helmet.
Campbelltown City and Eagle Vale School Holiday Care centres are open from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday, and offer a range of exciting activities and excursions, including trips to the movies, Inflatable World, Maximum Skating and a visit to Wollongong Science Centre and Planetarium. Council’s Family Day Care educators also hold activities and excursions during the school break.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said he was very pleased council was able to provide such a diverse program of activities, either free or low cost, to get kids out and about, and having fun during the school holiday break.
“There’s no need for parents to have their hip pockets take a battering, or to be out on the roads battling Sydney’s traffic to find exciting activities for kids to do during the school holidays, when there’s so much to do right here in Campbelltown,” he said.
“Kids will have the opportunity to have fun while learning about the environment and tapping into their creative side through the Threatened Species Art and Creative Writing holiday program, experience the many activities on offer at our libraries, get active through intensive swim classes or bike riding, and enjoy a variety of excursions through our holiday care centres.”
