Coming up to this year’s Australia Day celebrations there will be a big drive to get us to eat lamb on January 26.
Nothing wrong with that: our lamb is so good the best lamb souvlaki in the world is to be found not in Greece but in the yeeros joints of Sydney and Melbourne.
Same goes for pasta, fried rice, curries and Pad Thai.
Food wise, there’s no doubt Australia is the multicultural king of the world – we really are the very, very lucky country.
Flying this culinary flag right here in Macarthur is the wonderful Alkalizer café in Queen Street, Campbelltown (front of the council administration building).
[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“We are proud to celebrate Australia Day especially in a multicultural community like Campbelltown,’’ says Shefali, the creator of Alkalizer.[/social_quote]
“It’s like one big family.’’
The Alkalizer will open its kitchen this Friday, January 26 and to mark Australia Day will offer their patrons something special on the menu.
“We are baking Alkalizer’s famous in house made pies with Portuguese spiced chat potatoes and house salad,’’ explains Shefali.
“Two flavours this season are creamy mushroom and chicken and corn beef in rich gravy.’’
But wait, there’s more, catering those who may have other plans for Australia Day.
“We are also doing picnic packs ready for families which will be enjoying their day at the beach or a park,’’ Shefali said.
So, there you go, Alkalizer’s got everyone covered for this Australia Day 2018.
It will be open for breakfast and lunch from 8 am and until 3pm.
