Picton have secured top spot on the Group 6 Rugby League ladder, following a 34-22 win over Campbelltown City on Saturday night at Campbelltown Stadium.

The Thirlmere Roosters have confirmed they are a club on the rise after their 50-8 belting of Oakdale Workers.

The Roosters are in third place on the ladder, behind Picton and Mittagong, who also notched up half a century in their 50-22 win over the Narellan Jets.

The Kangaroos are in fourth spot after their third loss in a row, with Camden making up the top five.

Camden went down to The Oaks Tigers 30-20 on the weekend.

After nine rounds of the 2017 premiership, only Oakdale look like they are out of business this season, with just three points to their credit.

At Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Saturday night in the annual Ron Kain Memorial Shield match, the Kangaroos put in a below par performance for a team running second on the ladder after eight weeks of football.

Picton, to be fair, were far from impressive. MIKE SHEAN, of Macarthur Sports Radio reports:

The Magpies won the match off the back of a spurt in the early stages of the second half in front of a healthy crowd.

Picton drew first blood after eight minutes, when front rower Billy Carroll, who is making a habit of scoring tries, bagged the first for the visitors.

Picton centre Shawn Orcher added his name to the sheet on 17 minutes, giving the Magpies a 12-0 lead over City, and the signs looked ominous for the home side.

However, the Kangaroos, who were also celebrating their annual Old Boys day, gave the local supporters something to cheer about when centre Ihaia Kohonui scored in the 21st minute.

Just before halftime, Jett Karam produced some solo brilliance to reduce the margin to 12-10.

Eight minutes into the second half Everett bagged his second.

When Michael Lett chimed in minutes later, and with Everett getting a third on the back of that, the game was as good as over at 28-10 to the Magpies.

Matt Jones, the hard-working lock for Campbelltown City, scored a try with 13 minutes left, making the score 28-16.

But Picton hit straight back through former Mittagong backrower Erin Blackshaw.

A try to City on the stroke of fulltime saw the score finish at 34-22.
