Outstanding achievements on and off local sporting fields

Matthew Browne from Magpies Cricket Club won the Youth Sportsperson category

Netball, swimming, hockey and cricket representatives took out the monthly honours for June in the 2018 Wests Group Macarthur Sports Council awards.

Matthew Browne from Magpies Cricket Club won the Youth Sportsperson award category after a successful summer season.

Matthew, who competed in the Under 14 Division 1 cricket team of the Magpies scored 601 runs and took 19 wickets.

Matthew achieved a rare feat of winning all five individual awards within his team. This included best batting average and aggregate, best bowling average and aggregate and most catches.

Wests hockey team C Grade ladies has won the Sports Team award for June.

This unique and diverse team ranges in age from 14-71 and is made up of Aletta Booy, Anke Booy, Alana Brooks, Cheryl Bryce, Rachael Clarke, Lauren Dyet, Vicky Farrell, Teresa Flack, Alison Griffiths, Krystal Livingstone, Isabella Magee, Lyndsay Robinson, Margaret Sanders, Clare Stibbard, Zoe Vacchini, Katherine Willis and Michelle Bryce.

This team, pictured here, exemplifies what team sport is all about: co-operation, encouragement, pure enjoyment of the game and a little bit of excitement when they win a game.

Netball player Rebekah Quinn took out the Senior Sportsperson award for June.

She turns up ready to play with her team, the Division 8 ladies, week in and week out.

In a remarkable achievement, Rebekah has not missed a game in the past two seasons and is also an amazing shooter.

Nine year old Sterling Tuxford from Mount Annan Swimming Club won the Junior Sportsperson award.

Sterling has been a member of Mount Annan Swimming Club for over two years and his achievements include:

Qualifying for Sydney South West Regional in 50m freestyle and the junior boys 50m butterfly.

He won the 50m freestyle qualifying for NSW PSSA State Swimming Championships, where he was a finalist.

This year Sterling qualified for Sydney South West Regional Swimming in the 9 years 50m freestyle and also the junior boys 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

He won the 9 years 50m freestyle, junior boys 50m butterfly and the 200m individual medley.

Hayleigh Keogh, of Campbelltown Thunder Netball Club, took out the Spirit of Sports award category for June.

Hayleigh is a founding member of the club and played a key role in its establishment in 2016.

She has played for the club and been part of the club committee for three consecutive years. She has held numerous roles including vice president, umpire convenor and uniform officer.

Hayleigh has also recently taken on the vacant role of coaches’ coordinator for the club.

Alexandra Nothdurfter from Mount Annan Swimming Club has won the June Encouragement award.

Alexandra is 8 years old and has been a part of Mount Annan Swimming Club for the past two years.

In that time Alexandra has achieved a great deal.

She has competed in many swimming carnivals not just for her swim club but also representing her school, St Gregory’s Primary School where she was awarded Junior Girls Age Champion of 2018.

In the 2018 Metro South West Guilford heats Alexandra placed first in all four events.

The annual Wests Group Macarthur Youth Sports Awards winners in each category will receive a cheque for $500.
