“There are so many things for seniors to do,’’ says Deanna Morley, a local resident and member of Wests Leagues member.
Mrs Morley was one of more than 200 senior members of the club who attended a mini seniors’ expo at the club last week.
“These days being a senior is about vitality, friendship and experience,’’ Mrs Morley said.
“The expo was very helpful and informative, particularly for people that are looking to get involved in more activities for seniors.’’
Seniors enjoyed the opportunity to find out more about what activities and groups are currently on offer for their age group right here in Macarthur.
Local community groups and organisations such as Leumeah Probus, Meals on Wheels, Campbelltown Senior Cyber Seekers, Myrtle Cottage, Ingleburn Knitters Group, Men’s Shed, Mt Gilead Estate and FITHQ had stands at the expo, showcasing the range of activities and services they provide for people over 55.
A Wests Leagues club spokesperson said Campbelltown City Council also supported the event “with a fantastic stand’’.
The mini expo kicked off 2019 Seniors Festival 2019 celebrations at Wests Leagues club and was combined with its popular monthly senior socials event.
“Our senior members are an important and valued part of our clubs,’’ says Tony Mathew, the CEO of Wests Group Macarthur.
“During Senior’s Festival 2019 we recognise and celebrate the amazing contribution that our local senior citizens have made to our community,’’ he said.
“We enjoy seeing the life-long friendships that have been formed amongst our seniors here at Wests and we are proud that our venues are a comfortable and friendly meeting place for many local seniors’ groups,’’ Mr Mathew said.
The expo had something for everyone, regardless of physical capacity, age, resources or interest.
Many seniors stayed on to attend the regular monthly senior socials event at Wests, enjoying fabulous entertainment from Newcastle vocalist Victoria Magee, as well as Aussie country and rock’n’roll performer Rodney Vincent.
Wests League Club Senior Socials are a regular monthly event, held on the second Tuesday of the month and are a fantastic and affordable way for seniors to socialise with their partners or friends and meet people in the same age group.
Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for visitors, including morning tea and performances from two artists.
