opal cardOpal cards will be available at a pop-up kiosk on Holsworthy Station this Thursday, September 4 from 7am to 10am.

Public transport customers can also obtain and top-up their Opal card at around 1,000 retail outlets across the state, to make using Opal even easier.

“A pop- up Opal Kiosk will be visiting Holsworthy Station, so it is even easier for people in our local community to turn up, have a chat with a friendly Opal staff member and find out how they can easily obtain an Opal card,” said the Member for Menai, Melanie Gibbons.

“In just a few easy steps customers can walk away with their own Opal card and start taking advantage of all the benefits of the new electronic ticketing system.

“I am happy to say that there are now around 1,000 stores that have Opal cards available. These stores are conveniently located near bus stops, train stations and community hubs across Sydney and the regions,” Ms Gibbons said.

“More than 500,000 Opal cards have already been ordered, and around two thirds of customers are opting to use auto top-up so they never have to fumble for coins again. It is just like having an e-tag in your pocket.”

Ms Gibbons said the NSW Government will also deliver more ways to make Opal accessible for customers, and this will include machines at stations.

“Retiring some paper tickets on September 1 is part of the Government’s commitment to bringing our public transport network into the 21st century,” Ms Gibbons said.

Ms Gibbons stressed that even though some paper ticket types are being retired, it was important that pensioners or seniors understood they did not have to worry because the Pensioner Excursion Ticket paper tickets will still be sold after September 1.

“Pensioners and seniors can keep buying and using PET paper tickets today, after the Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card is introduced later this year and well into the future.”

Opal retail stores can be located at www.retailers.opal.com.au, registered Adult or Child/Youth Opal cards can also be ordered from opal.com.au or by calling 13 67 25 (13 OPAL).
