Celebration of 25 years: Mayor Lake checks out recent improvements at the centre

Local councils don’t often tell residents to get on their bikes and when they do it’s usually for a good cause.

As is the case with Campbelltown City Council, which is inviting all residents to “get on their bike’’ to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the local Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre.

A family fun day will be held on Sunday week, July 19, in recognition of the milestone, with a variety of free, family friendly activities from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

With face painting, a jumping castle, bicycle inspections, road safety programs and a sausage sizzle, it’s sure to be a fun day out for bike and scooter riders of all ages.

But don’t forget your helmet if you decide tgo go along on the day.

Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr Paul Lake, said the Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre was popular among local families and the family fun day was an opportunity to recognise its success.

“Over the past 25 years, the centre has provided a range of educational programs, with a focus on road safety and practical bicycle skills for the whole community, including schools and people with disability,” Cr Lake said.

“It is a valuable local resource and council is proud to provide a facility which promotes bicycle education and road safety in a fun and safe environment.

The facility is open to the public every Sunday from 10am to 3pm and entry is free.

It is also available for hire for children’s birthday parties, sports presentations and family events.

It features a mini road circuit with traffic signs and lights, as well as a skills course, and is a safe environment for riders to gain confidence and knowledge in bicycle road safety.

There is also a junior track for toddlers, a playground, powered barbecue sites and a sheltered picnic area. Wheelchair access is available.

The Campbelltown Bicycle Education and Road Safety Centre is accessed via King Street.
