Oakdale Workers exit in first week of Macarthur Conference finals

And then there were four left in the inaugural Macarthur Conference first grade premiership.

Oakdale Workers became the first side to be eliminated after going down 24-12 to Picton Magpies at Kirkham Park, Camden yesterday.

The Workers, who made the big dance last year, will be disappointed with their early exit but will now start thinking about how to improve for next season.

In the earlier match, the qualification final, also played at Kirkham Park, home side Camden Rams defeated the gallant Campbelltown City Kangaroos 38-12.

City were in the game, especially in the first half where they trailed 12-10, but Camden were too classy in the second stanza and ran away with the match, pictured above.

The Kangaroos however live to fight another day and will now face off with Picton Magpies in a sudden death encounter this weekend in Week 2 of the 2022 finals.

Minor premiers East Campbelltown enjoyed a week off after a hectic five match schedule leading into the finals.

Coach Richard Barnes gave his players a chance to freshen up, but it will be back to business this week as they prepare to host Camden Rams this Sunday.

The winner of this match will qualify for the 2022 grand final.

The loser will get one more chance in the preliminary final a week later to make the decider.

Waminda Oval is listed as the venue for Week 2 of the finals, and according to club sources barring heavy rain this week will be available all weekend.

NSWRL has scheduled Week 3 finals matches, including first grade, at Thirlmere Sportsground.

A week later the grand finals will be played at Campbelltown Sports Stadium over Saturday and Sunday, September 10 and 11.
