Nurses, midwives take a bow

Nursing and midwifery staff at Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals will be officially recognised and thanked for their commitment to patient care and clinical excellence during International Nurses Day celebrations this Tuesday, May 12. Acting Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals Bradley Warner said the celebrations provided an opportunity to reflect on the invaluable contribution that nurses and midwives make to the Australian healthcare system. “Nurses and midwives are at the forefront of patient care and treatment, from the moment the patient arrives at the hospital until well after they are discharged,” Mr Warner said. “They possess advanced clinical knowledge that is vital for improving the overall health and wellbeing of patients and supporting the healthcare team. “International Nurses and Midwives Day provides us with an opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution that nurses and midwives make to healthcare throughout the year.  “It also gives nurses and midwives the opportunity to reflect on their achievements and feel proud to contribute to such a highly-valued and noble profession,” he said. Celebrations for International Nurses Day will be combined with International Midwives Day to recognise all nurses and midwives at both Camden and Campbelltown Hospitals.   Celebration activities include:  Nursing Moving Forward Fashion Parade Staff barbecue lunch Pin the Medal on Matron Grace Wilson Announcement, Awards for Most Outstanding Registered Nurse, Enrolled Nurse and Assist in Nursing and Scholarships/Raffles. International Nurses Day is officially held on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale who is recognised as the founder of modern nursing. The theme for this year’s event is “Nurses: A Force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective’’. International Day of the Midwife has been officially celebrated on May 5 since 1991 and is observed in over 50 nations worldwide. This year’s theme is “Midwives: for a better tomorrow’’.
