A NSW Labor Government will implement an immediate moratorium on Coal Seam Gas (CSG) exploration across the State, as well as making a range of “no go” zones where coal seam gas activities will be permanently banned.

“Our community does not want to see the local environment potentially put at risk by an unproven industry,’’ says Labor candidate for Campbelltown, Greg Warren.

“Labor’s policy of no expansion of existing operations means that under a Labor Government there will be no northern expansion of the Camden gas project,’’ Mr Warren said.

“It does not matter what (the Camden MP) Chris Patterson says – he is not the Minister and the Liberal Government has not supported his statement.

“Labor has listened to the concerns of local communities about CSG and we’ll act in government to put the best interests of local communities and our water supplies first,’’ Mr Warren said.

The Labor energy spokesman, Adam Searle, said that  if elected it will close any CSG operations found to be risking community health.

“They will be closed until they can be proven to be safe.’’
