No, Ministers, buck passing just won’t do

Not amused by the buck passing: Ingleburn residents Margaret Ballantine (left) and Pat Thomson with local MP Anoulack Chanthivong near Ingleburn railway station.

Ingleburn residents fed up with the lack of noise barriers between their homes and the southern railway line approached their local MP for help last year.

Anoulack Chanthivong, the State Member for Macquarie Fields, gladly took up their cause and wrote to both the state and federal transport ministers.

What he got for his troubles was a classic case of buck-passing between the two ministers.

Replying to Mr Chanthivong, the state transport minister said all this was a federal responsibility.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly the same reply that came back from the federal transport minister.

Anoulack Chanthivong is not amused by the buck passing and contradiction, and has gone on the attack.

He says that while the two Liberal Governments were disputing each other’s responsibility for the situation, local residents were left having to contend with the screeching noise of freight and passenger rail operations.

“Sadly, it appears that both Liberal Governments have completely washed their hands of any responsibility on this matter and left residents in limbo,” Mr Chanthivong said.

“I have received conflicting correspondence [pictured below] from the State and Federal Ministers on this issue, both pointing the finger at each other and taking zero responsibility.

“It’s ridiculous and demonstrates that both Liberal Governments have stooped to a new low where incompetence reigns supreme.

[social_quote duplicate=”no” align=”default”]“But the Liberal Governments’ lack of action isn’t about to silence residents, many of who have lived for generations in the area and are demanding that something be done about it – and now!”[/social_quote]

Residents signed a petition last year calling on the Government to install noise barriers adjacent to the southern railway line between Gordon Avenue and James Street in Ingleburn.

Newer suburbs in the area were provided with noise barriers prior to the construction of homes.

“Let’s be real here. Both Liberal Governments are buck-passing and residents’ concerns are being completely ignored as a result,” Mr Chanthivong said.
