It will be a case of turn on the lights at local sport grounds after Liberal senator for Western Sydney Marise Payne visited Kooringa Reserve at Raby on Friday to announce $300,000 in federal government funding.
“The funding will cover four separate projects to deliver new or upgraded lighting to sporting fields and a netball complex across the Macarthur electorate,” Senator Payne said.
The funding includes:
• $130,000 for the Victoria Park lighting project that will cover upgrades to the multi-purpose fields located at Minto, which are frequently used by fitness groups and rugby league clubs such as the Ingleburn RSL Tigers.
• $60,000 for the Wood Park lighting project which will cover the purchase and installation of sports lighting at Wood Park at Ingleburn.
• $60,000 for the Coronation Park Netball Complex project which will cover the upgrade of sports lighting at the regional netball centre at Minto.
• $50,000 for the Kooringa Reserve Light Tower project, which will cover the upgrade of sports lighting to the football fields in the reserve at Raby, the home ground for St Marys Eagle Vale Soccer Club.
The initial announcement was made by Senator Payne and the former Liberal MP for Macarthur Russell Matheson during the July 2 election last year.
Friday’s announcement Senator Payne confirmed that funding has been approved.
“This funding is incredibly important for local sporting and fitness groups throughout Macarthur to offer greater flexibility for training and evening games, particularly in the winter months,” Senator Payne said.

“I am pleased to be delivering these projects which will benefit the Macarthur electorate and I am proud to be seeing it through to fruition,” Senator Payne said.
Mayor of Campbelltown, Cr George Brticevic, said that good things are achieved by working together in collaboration for the benefit of Campbelltown.
“I welcome this announcement and thank everyone that has been involved. These grants complement council’s major investment in local sport and recreation facilities, and the new lighting at these sites will be welcomed by the thousands of local sports participants that utilise the grounds,” Cr Brticevic said.
“The ongoing support of all levels of government in the provision of versatile sports facilities will help to ensure that Campbelltown City’s strong sporting tradition is fostered into the future, and I thank Senator Payne for the Federal Government funding grant.”
While the Coalition Government is investing the money under the Community Development Grants Program, Campbelltown City Council is managing the delivery of the project.
